HVAC Service Technician

Mid-Level, Senior, or Lead Technician

Location: Haddonfield, New Jersey and surrounding service area
Employment Type: Full-Time
Pay Range: $30.00–$50.00 per hour, based on experience, technical ability, licensing, and leadership responsibilities

Position Overview

Haddon Heating & Cooling is seeking an experienced HVAC Service Technician to diagnose, repair, maintain, and improve residential and light commercial heating and cooling systems.

We are hiring across multiple experience levels, from a capable mid-level technician who can independently complete most service calls to a lead technician who can handle advanced diagnostics, assist other technicians, communicate confidently with customers, and help establish high service standards.

The ideal candidate takes pride in performing accurate work, communicates professionally, and understands that the goal is not simply to replace parts—it is to correctly identify the cause of the problem and provide the customer with an honest, long-term solution.

Compensation Levels

Actual starting pay will be based on demonstrated experience and technical proficiency.

• Mid-Level Technician: $30.00–$38.00 per hour
• Senior Technician: $38.00–$44.00 per hour
• Lead Technician: $44.00–$50.00 per hour

Lead-level compensation is intended for technicians who can perform advanced diagnostics, manage difficult service situations, support other technicians, and help oversee field quality and technical standards.

Primary Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair residential and light commercial HVAC systems.
• Service gas furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, air handlers, boilers, ductless mini-split systems, and related controls.
• Perform preventative maintenance and system inspections.
• Troubleshoot electrical, airflow, refrigerant, combustion, and control-system problems.
• Accurately measure and interpret superheat, subcooling, static pressure, temperature split, airflow, voltage, amperage, and combustion readings.
• Identify the root cause of system failures rather than relying on unnecessary parts replacement.
• Explain findings and repair recommendations clearly and professionally to customers.
• Prepare accurate service notes, equipment information, photographs, estimates, and job documentation.
• Present repair and replacement options without using dishonest or high-pressure sales tactics.
• Maintain an organized, clean, and properly stocked service vehicle.
• Follow company safety procedures and all applicable codes and manufacturer requirements.
• Protect customer homes and businesses by maintaining a clean and professional work area.
• Participate in training and stay current with changes in equipment, refrigerants, controls, and industry standards.
• Participate in a rotating on-call schedule when required.

Additional Lead Technician Responsibilities

Candidates hired at the lead technician level may also be responsible for:

• Assisting technicians with advanced diagnostics and technical questions.
• Providing field support for difficult or unusual service calls.
• Reviewing service quality, documentation, and callback issues.
• Helping train and develop junior and mid-level technicians.
• Supporting the development of service procedures and diagnostic standards.
• Coordinating with management regarding recurring equipment or workmanship issues.
• Helping reduce callbacks through accurate diagnosis and quality control.
• Representing the company during high-priority or sensitive customer situations.
• Maintaining a high standard of professionalism, accountability, and technical leadership.

Required Qualifications

• At least three years of professional HVAC service experience for mid-level consideration.
• At least five years of strong diagnostic service experience preferred for senior or lead-level consideration.
• Ability to independently diagnose common heating and cooling system failures.
• Working knowledge of electrical circuits, refrigeration systems, airflow, controls, and sequence of operation.
• EPA Section 608 certification.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to safely lift equipment, climb ladders, work in attics and crawlspaces, and perform the physical duties associated with HVAC service.
• Ability to communicate professionally with customers, coworkers, and management.
• Ability to use a smartphone or tablet for scheduling, documentation, estimates, and service records.
• Dependable attendance and a strong sense of personal accountability.

Preferred Qualifications

• NATE certification or manufacturer-specific training.
• Experience with Mitsubishi or other ductless and variable-capacity systems.
• Experience servicing boilers and hydronic heating systems.
• Experience with communicating, inverter-driven, and advanced control systems.
• NJ HVACR license or applicable trade credentials.
• Experience training or supervising other HVAC technicians.
• Strong knowledge of combustion analysis, airflow diagnostics, and advanced refrigeration troubleshooting.

Schedule

This is a full-time field position. The normal schedule will generally be Monday through Friday, with overtime and participation in a rotating on-call schedule based on seasonal demand and business needs.
