As a Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic, you will play a vital role in maintaining and repairing a modern fleet of refuse and recycling trucks, ensuring reliable service for customers and supporting the company’s mission of sustainability. This full-time, in-shop position provides opportunities for skill development, career advancement, and a competitive compensation package in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs and scheduled preventative maintenance on refuse and recycling trucks in a shop environment.
  • Review pre- and post-trip inspection sheets and address identified issues to ensure vehicle safety and compliance.
  • Diagnose, repair, rebuild, and adjust heavy-duty diesel-powered equipment, including engines, brakes, transmissions, drivelines, electrical, fuel, exhaust, cooling, suspension, and hydraulic systems.
  • Utilize acetylene and arc welding tools for equipment repairs as needed.
  • Obtain and maintain a forklift operator certificate (training provided by the company).
  • Occasionally respond to off-site locations to assist with cleanups or repairs.
  • Complete other maintenance duties as assigned to support fleet reliability and safety.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working on commercial vehicles or trucks.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair diesel equipment mechanical problems.
  • Proficient in using personal tools safely (mechanics must provide their own tools).
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions in English.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Experience in the waste industry, CNG systems, or automated side loaders is a plus.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a plus.

Compensation

$36.00 – $42.00 per hour , based on experience and qualifications. Tool allowance program available, up to $200 per month.
